  • Untouched Islands of the Myeik Archipelago

The Myeik Archipelago, located in southernmost part of Myanmar (Burma) comprises of over 800 beautiful islands scattered more or less parallel to the cost of 480 km long Myeik Peninsula on the Andaman Sea. Myeik (formerly Mergui) Archipelago is famous and well known because of its crystal blue water, untouched coral reef and uninhabited islands clustered close to one another. Some are rocky and some are forested which some have sandy beach. Hilly islands are of limestone stretch-out for hundreds of meters forms caves and enclosed lakes assessable at low tide through rock tunnels. Sea swallows (swifts) build their nests high which can be very hard to reach; the agile collectors are claver enough to get the nest with risk as bird's nests are valuable for human consumption.
The Myeik Archipelago is largely uninhabited save for the nomadic Sea Gypsies, called Salons by Myanmar. The Salons are acknowledged to be expert divers and swimmers. They live on boats during dry season and remain on land during rainy season and fish for living.
The Myeik Archipelago is also quite famous dive spot in scuba divers world. There are many dive sites and undoubtedly waiting to be discovered. Among of them Black Rock, Western Rocky, Twin Islands and OK Rock are famous for scuba diving. One of the main attractions for divers is the strong possibility of seeing big animals, especially sharks and rays. More dependable, however, is the tremendous variety of smaller fish and reef creatures, including many unusual species. Thus, why don’t you take the opportunity to visit one of the last and most diverse, untouched frontiers in Myanmar!!
