Thanlyin Excursion

Bago Excursion |

Bago, 84km north of
Yangon.
On the way, visit the Allied War Memorial Cemetery that comprises
27,000 tombstones of Allied soldiers who lost their lives in
Myanmar during the World War II. Also, stop at Bamboo wares
workshops at Htauk Kyant Village, and the "Shwe Nyaung Bin", a
tree shrine dedicated to legendary spirits.
Bago had been the ancient capital of Mon Kingdom in the 15th
century. Sightseeing places in Bago are; the "Shwe Maw Daw
Pagoda", over a thousand years old which is even taller than the Shwe Dagon Pagoda of Yangon, the
ShweTha Lyaung Reclining Buddha
Image, 55 metres long and one of the country's most revered. Enjoy
Myanmar Meals for Lunch at a local restaurant.
Proceed to Kalyani Sima (Ordination Hall) to study a stone
inscription of historical interest. Continue to
Maha Cedi Pagoda,
from which upper most terraces, magnificent panoramic view of the Bago Plains can be seen. Also, make visits to a cheroot factory in
Bago. On the way to
Yangon visit Kyaik Pon Buddha Images, built in 1476 by King
Dhammazedi. Four huge sitting Buddhas placed back to back around
a huge square pillar. 30m high four Buddha images represent the
four Buddhas already enlightened in this world. |

Kyaikhtiyo (Golden Rock) Excursion

Drive via
Bago to Kinpun 'base
camp' <approx. 194km - 5 hrs>. From
Kinpun, a steep and dirt 11km
mountain road leads to the upper staging point, a journey made in
open truck which is usually crowded. From that upper point,
travelers must walk the final stage, approx. 4km, up steep paths
to the Kyaikhtiyo
<Golden Rock> Pagoda, a huge boulder completely
covered by gold leaf and delicately balanced on the edge of a
cliff. As an easier alternative to walking, travelers can be
carried in sedan chairs by four porters. On arrival, watch the
beauty of sunset at this important pilgrimage site. Dinner and
overnight at Kyaikhto hotel. |
