POE-WIN TAUNG, ONE OF THE VAST CULTURAL SITES OF
MYANMAR

Poe-Win Taung (Poe-Win Hill), which is famous
for its cluster of ancient art-works, is situated eight miles
away from Yin Mar Bin Township in Monywa District, Sagaing
Division and 12 miles from Salingyi. The shape of the hill looks
like a capsized racing boat. To get there you can go via Monywa,
crossing the Chindwin by a motorized ferry boat to Nyaungbingyi
where bus service is available.
Poe-Win Taung is a place where Myanma ancient sculptures, mural
paintings and natural sand-stones can be studied in one spot at
the same time. The hill has about 974 caves and 446,444 Buddha
statues. The Poe-win Hill is famous for ancient Myanmar art and
sculptural works.
The Po Wing Taung Pagoda festival, like other festival in
Myanmar, is a crowded affair. It starts some time in November
every year and continues for about a week. It will fall on 19th
November to 25th November in this year. To the festival would
come people come from villages around Salingyi and, of course,
many from the rest of the country. People in neighboring
villages come in bullock carts: the oxen are elegantly
caparisoned; the carts beautifully ornamented; and the villagers
are all dressed in their finest clothes.
If you are an animal lover, there are monkeys waiting for you to
feed in their natural environment. You can take snapshots of
them at close range.

you can observe Myanma ancient sculptures, mural paintings and
natural sand-stones in one spot and also study the tamed monkeys
dangling and playing here and there. |

TAZAUNGDAING LIGHTS FESTIVAL (

It is close to reach the Tazaungdaing lights Festival. It is usually
held on the full moon day of Tazaungmone in November for three days all
over Myanmar. It will fall on 24th November in this year. Tazaungmonge,
one of religious festivals is eighth month of Myanmar calendar and end
of the monsoon.
On the full moon day of Tazaungmone, procession around their township
with pe-da-tha trees on day time and then donates to the monasteries. At
night, total of 9999 candles are ceremoniously lit at the pagodas.
Houses, office, shops and streets are decorated with electric lights
too. The biggest weaving competitions take place at Shwedagone Pagoda
platform. They are woven within the space of the night, is gala
celebration enjoyed by young and old. On that night all the stars shine
perfectly out and at midnight people usually eat with mixed salad of
maezali buds, as a belief to process powerful, magical and medicinal
properties if eaten at this time. This is one of the adorable habits of
Myanmar.
The night after the full moon day is fanciful for the young men! It is
the wont of the youths to steal things like flower pots and clothes and
pile them at the cross roads, sign boards would be put at the door of
privies, they also hoist womenfs skirt at the top of the pole. In the
morning, everyone has a good laugh. In small towns and villages, where
the people know one another, this is done in the spirit of fun. No
serious harms are done and no one is offended for it.

NAGA TRADITIONAL NEW YEAR FESTIVAL (

Naga New Year festival, the most auspicious festival will be held on 15th
January in year 2008. The festival site is Leshi where most of the main
tribes such as Makyan Naga, Ponnyo Naga, Lai Naung Naga, Hyne Myay Naga
and Nauk Au Naga live harmoniously. This festival is the most colorful
festival in the country and all Naga celebrate the New Year festival
together. The Naga festival is social, but it is also to exchange
previous year experiences, to make plans for the coming year, to discuss
how to overcome difficulties and to reunion of relatives who are away
from home. They worship to their god by scarifying the animals for
abundant crops and domestic animals and to have good weather.
Come and experience the true spirit of friendship of the proud people
living in harmony with nature.

THE VAST ECOTOURISM SITE OF MYANMAR (

Alaungdaw Kathapa National Park was the first of its kind to be
established in Myanmar. The Park is situated in Yinmabin Township of
Sagaing Division, west of Chindwin River, and east of Myitha River; more
or less at the foot-hills of the Chin Hills, and not too far from the
India border. Visitors can easily travel by car from Yinmabin to lodging
house at the camp of National Park in peak season starting from December
to April. For pilgrimages to Alaungdaw Kathapa Cave, it is possible by
riding elephants or walking from lodging house camp.
The area was selected because the forests were mostly intact, and the
forest types distinctly diverse as was also the tree species stocked
within individual types of forests. Other floral species are also
abundant, particularly a wide variety of wild orchids. The area is also
crammed in wildlife with the Tiger and the Asian Elephant being the
focal species. Birdlife is varied, with about eighty species having been
recorded; but the number of species occurring within the area is
considerably higher.

TAZAUNGMONE, MONTH OF SPECIAL OCCASION FOR MYANMAR PEOPLE

It is time for Myanmar people get ready to do the meritorious deeds as
much as they can. Tazaungmone is the eight month of Myanmar calendar;
also the time of festivities and donation activities to celebrate.
During the Tazaungmone festival, houses and public buildings are
colorfully illuminated everywhere. Illuminations are more elaborate than
in Thadingyut.
One important ceremony associated with the season is the offering of the
new yellow robes (Ka-htein robes) to the monks and make pa-de-tha tree
is back, hung with things like packets of yellow robes and other
requisites, like a Christmas tree in order to donate to the Sangha in
progress. The pa-de-tha tree cannot be planted by expert, but it can
only be nurtured by acts of Dhana. People believe that they would reborn
in the land where such trees grow.
Thus Tazaungmone is the special occasion for the Myanmar people to enjoy
with the deed in the right spirit. |

HOT-AIR BALLOON FESTIVAL IN PYIN OO LWIN (

Pyin Oo Lwin situated 67 km east of Mandalay at the
altitude of 1070 m. There has Tazungdaing Festival and Hot-Air Balloon
Festival at Maha Htunt Htoo Kanthar Pagoda in this year. The opening
ceremony will held on 21st November at 12:00 hrs and release
white elephant hot-air balloon with height 14 feet and length 17 feet as
a commemoration of opening ceremony.
It was starting from Year 2005 and released 12 balloons in competition
and 36 balloons in 2006. There will include 120 balloons in balloon
competition in this year 2007.
There is also hot balloons competition on the day and night occasions
from 21st November to 25th November, 2007. Day
balloons are in the form of animals and the night balloons would sting
along fireworks and fire sticks which are set off mid-air fireworks.

NEW
AIRLINE, HONG KONG EXPRESS AIRWAYS ( November 7,
2007) |
The new airline, Hong Kong Express Airways, flight No. UO 791 of Boeing
737-800 landed to Yangon International Airport at 09:50 hrs on 2nd
November, 2007 as a first trip.@It will operate twice a week on every
Tuesday and Friday for Hong Kong-Yangon-Hong Kong sector. In first trip,
it landed with 27 passengers to Yangon and took off with 11 passengers
from Yangon.
